WHS compliance checklist for facility managers: electrical and safety equipment

A Plus Compliance Services team preparing for a workplace compliance visit

Facility managers juggle many maintenance cycles at once. Electrical and safety equipment testing is one of the easiest to fall behind on, because each item type runs on a different interval.

Use this checklist to review where each site stands and what to put in place so cycles are not missed.

Equipment checklist

  • Portable electrical equipment tested and tagged to AS/NZS 3760
  • Switchboard and portable RCDs push-button and trip-time tested
  • Emergency and exit lights tested six-monthly and annually
  • Fire extinguishers, blankets and hose reels inspected to AS 1851
  • Biomedical and patient area equipment tested where applicable
  • First aid kits checked and restocked

Records checklist

  • Asset register current for every site
  • Reports stored centrally and easy to send to auditors or insurers
  • Failed items documented and followed up
  • Next due dates diarised with reminders before they fall due

Contractor checklist

  • Qualified technicians with current insurance — A Plus holds $20M public liability
  • Site inductions completed before work starts
  • Testing scheduled around operating hours to limit disruption
  • One consolidated report across services and sites
